As I mentioned in my HDTV review, I needed a new stand for my stuff because I can no longer mount my speaker on top of my new TV. The process of looking for a stand can be overwhelming. I needed it to be between 60 and 65 inches to fit all my stuff without being so large that it leaves me no space for speakers. I also needed a middle shelf open for a center speaker and some breathing room, so most cabinets with glass doors were not wanted.
At first, I was looking at the beautiful Salamader Synergy line. The problem was that it was too wide (66.75 inches) and too pricey. I also looked at BDI and many other contenders on the Racksandstands website.
However, I read many glowing reviews for the Laurier 60″ TV Stand and was about ready to order it on the web and noticed that they had one at a local store. I decided to go take a look at it. The specs were perfect: Open middle shelf, 60 inches wide, glass doors that actually allowed air through the front for cooling, and to top it off, lighting mounted inside each cabinet to show off components when I was in the mood…did I mention that it was one piece and did not require me to put it together? PERFECT!!! Unfortunately, I got to the store and hated it. It just looked cheap to my eyes and I was not a fan of the sliding glass doors. They had some sort of metal piece on them that was distracting… Anyway, other might like them, but I didn’t.
I ended up buying the cheapest stand of the bunch (Init ® - TV Stand for Most Flat-Panel or Microdisplay Televisions Up to 65″ - Black). For less than $300, the Init stand is made of all tinted black glass. It is a completely open design, so no problem with air circulation, it is 63 1/5 inches wide, and it is fairly deep (23 1/5 inches) so I did not have to worry about my components hanging out of the back. I also like the design which will work with any speakers that I will put next to it. What a bargain! (Pics coming soon)
